Organising things to make yourself organised

Recently I was reading an article that said, “the lesser organised you are, the more efficient worker you are”, and I started wondering. How can one become efficient when everything around that individual is in utter chaos? Since i am an astute believer of experiencing/doing things on my own before offering an opinions and viewpoints, i decided to revisit my work days and dig through how organised or unorganised I used to be and its impact on my efficiency.

At workplace I have this habit of doing anything and everything. So, if the work demands me to create as well as do market feasibility blueprint simultaneously, I won’t shy away from the assigned responsibilities. Though this being a good quality, it also leads to bombardment of more work than you can actually handle. An old saying but true, “When you have too much on your plate, you just don’t know what to do when”. This has happened with me all the time. It is thus important to plan and prioritise your to-dos.

Here are some organising help techniques that i recently stumbled upon and have found them very useful (http://muralmaker1.blogspot.in/2013/01/organize-stuff-online-new-series.html). I have adapted the suggested technique to fit the requirements of this article per say. These narrow down filtering technique done using Why-What-How-When, can help you in getting organised as well as systematise the work flow both offline and online.

Why?

Begin by listing down all your to-dos and write down your goals for each action (short-intermediate-long).While you are doing this critical task, keep asking yourself the following, "why are you doing whatever it is you do?". Doing this will help you in deciding the priority of each thing so they don’t ALL feel important.

What?

What do you do for each item. For instance,I am an aspiring entrepreneur, meaning I have an idea and plan to set up my own business. Having an idea is just not enough and this is where the 'what I do' comes into picture. To translate my idea into a valuable business preposition or venture, I must begin by researching the said domain. So, I might develop a mini market research template, reach out to people who can provide valuable insights, read research reports, develop plan of action and much more.

How?

How do you perform the action? Computer?Call?Email?Networking?Social Networking?Presentations etc.

When?
Each task that you would have listed as part of your TO-DO seems important an in-fact are important. However prioritisation helps you to set allocate time to each and every tasks. So prioritisation helps you in setting time for the tasks i.e. WHEN, you can do the various enlisted tasks.

I have shared my views on how one can organise oneself. Well, how do you go about organising yourself and how it has benefited you. Do share your self organising techniques that you have been practising for a while now.

Tracking blog postings through a simple template

As I am thinking on ideas, themes and topics for my blog, I am also thinking on ways to effectively plan my blog postings. In past as well, I have tried to set up a blog account, but failed miserably. One of the reasons could be to do with my habit to overtly plan stuffs (hoping to make it perfect from the beginning itself). Sometimes, I fail to realise that blogging needs to be done religiously and perhaps made part of the routine.

Getting to know me

Not sure as to how many of you will agree to this view of mine but believe me or not, it is always so difficult to scribble things about yourself. When I finally decided to start with blogging, I felt an instant need to let people know about me (who am I???) and what pushed me into blogging. So, here I am trying my best to introduce myself and then in next post share my ideas on what pushed me into blogging.

My name is Khushboo. It is a persian word which means fragrance or good smell. You may be thinking that she might be getting loads of compliment on this lovely name. To your disbelieve, I rarely used to get compliment on my names, especially when I was growing up. My fellow classmates used to distort my name by calling me Badboo..badboo (meaning, "bad smell"). I told my parents about this mocking and they told me something nice- Never let trivial things affect you, as they are harmless. A piece of advice which I use whenever things starts bothering me.

A wanderer by heart and nature, I have always believed that the world is my place and territorial boundaries are just there to help us track and control our lives and movements.

A self confessed 'doer', I firmly believe in doing or trying things myself first before sharing ideas, thoughts or things with others.

Having worked for 6 years (sporadically) in couple of industries and played few roles, I have developed deep seated interest in area of Education and Technology i.e. Fostering learning through use of technology solutions. Market research with emphasis on user psychology for education products, is another area that has caught my fancy.

A wishful thinking.. but I hope that someday we all can express ourselves in a constructive way that benefits the society at large.

What is your wishful thinking? What skills do you think our GenNEXT should have that could lead to wholesome development of our society?
